Bring Your Own Device
Our bring your own device (BYOD) programme means that students have the advantage of using their own device in classes, with which they are comfortable and familiar with.
BYOD means that students have complete access to all learning materials, resources and work both at school and home. Students are required to bring their own device (laptop, notebook or tablet) and connect to our school network, access programs, the internet, print and save their work to our school’s server 24/7.
CHOOSING A DEVICE:
Selecting the right device doesn’t need to be daunting. A suitable device is one that will last, work well, and has a battery life that can last all day at school.
Minimum Requirements
Hardware
- i3 or i5 processor
- 8 Gigabytes of RAM
- 128 Gigabyte Solid State Drive
- 7+ Hours Battery Life
- Screen size 13” or more
- Weight < 2kg
- Wireless (Dual Band) 802.11ac
Software / Operating System
- Apple OSX 10.14 or higher
- Windows 10
- Suitable Anti-Virus software (eg Microsoft Security Essentials which is free)
The School will provide a subscription to Microsoft Office 365, this also includes all the Microsoft Applications and 1 Terabyte (TB) of cloud storage which will be the promoted backup mechanism for students.

Students are also eligible to access Office 365 Education for free, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, plus additional classroom tools.

Students are welcome to come by the Learning Hub for ICT support at any stage during term and the ICT team can provide password resets. BYOD FAQs
At what year level does BYOD commence?
Students in all year levels at Willunga High School are required to bring a device to assist in their learning.
Student device isn’t working and they need technical support?
Firstly try turning your device off and on. If this doesn’t fix the issue technical support is available through our IT helpdesk which is open during 8.45am to 12.40pm and 1.00pm to 3.15pm. If students require hardware support they will need to contact the manufacturer directly.
Will the internet be filtered when the device is at school?
Yes, as long as the device is connected to the student school network. Parents should check their online networks at home to ensure they are filtered and consider how they will monitor usage at home.
Will the device be covered by the school if it gets lost or damaged?
No, parents should check their home and contents insurance policies and take out insurance for damage, loss or theft, or Accidental Damage Protection (ADP) at point of purchase.
What happens if my device is damaged accidentally during school hours?
Accidents do happen and it is important to have a warranty and insurance. If damage occurs by another student this will need to be reported to a year level leader.
Will students be able to recharge devices during the school day?
Students will not be able to charge devices at school due to safety issues. As part of personal organisation students need to charge their devices at home for learning at school.
Who is responsible for the device at school?
Students are responsible for their device at all times. No responsibility is taken by the school for loss or damage to devices owned by students.
What will happen if the device is used inappropriately?
The consequences of any breaches of the Responsible Use of ICT Policy will be determined by the relevant year level leaders, in accordance with the school’s behaviour support policies.
Will my child be able to print?
Yes. Once they have the ‘follow-you’ print queue installed they will have access to the managed print service linked to their student ID card.
Do I need to buy a new device, or will an existing one be OK?
A new device is not required as long as it meets the minimum BYOD specifications.
Who is responsible for any repairs or updating of personal computing devices?
Families who own the personal computing device will be responsible for organising repairs and updates. The IT Helpdesk will provide ‘how to’ guides for students on updates.
Where will the devices be stored when they are at school?
Students should ensure that when their devices are not being used that they are located in their bags in a safe place.
What software will my child be required to have on their device?
Student devices will come with an operating system. For Windows devices this should be Windows 10. For Apple Mac device this should be OS X 10.10 or later. Student devices should also have suitable anti-virus software installed. Other tools such as a preferred web browser and audio and video playing tools are generally already installed. Beyond that our school will provide access to Microsoft Office 365.
Who do I contact for warranty support?
Families will need to contact the supplier for any hardware faults and repairs.
