Special Options Class

Our Special Options Class provides learning opportunities for students with disabilities.

These disabilities include hearing impairment, visual impairment, physical impairment, intellectual impairment, speech language impairment and autistic spectrum disorder.

Curriculum:

The Core Curriculum areas are delivered as ongoing subjects during each student’s time at school and cover:

  • Literacy
  • Numeracy
  • Passion Project
  • Art
  • Home Economics
  • Drama
  • Health
  • Physical Education
  • Science
  • Life Skills

From years 7 -12 students are offered a broad range of modified ACARA and SACE subjects which are tailored to best suit their individual needs. Students can work towards a Modified SACE Certificate with relevant learning in each of the SACE areas. All curriculum outcomes are aligned to their One Plan SMARTER Goals (formally known as NEP).

We provide a transition pathway allowing students to access service providers in the community and a viable post-school option. For some students, it may include finding work experience through a variety of supported employment agencies such as Disability Employment Services (Job Prospects), Transition Programs (Daws Road Program) and Business Enterprises (MINDA, Bedford Industries).

Enrolment:

Decisions about enrolment in the Special Options Class are external to Willunga High School.  They are made by a panel coordinated by the Regional Office of the Department for Education.
