Willunga High School values and promotes the philosophies of Middle Schooling.  This means that we:

  • Develop positive relationships between teachers and students
  • Provide an environment which fosters success and values excellence
  • Offer a relevant, interesting and challenging curriculum to all students.

To be part of the Middle School at Willunga High in Year 8 means that:

  • Students stay with the same group of students for core subjects (LOTE/Cultural Studies, Maths, English, Science and SOSE). They will divide into smaller groups for practical subjects, like Physical Education, Home Economics and Technical Studies.
  • Homegroups will be based around information gained from primary school teachers and principals.
  • Each class has a Home Group room which they use for a number of their lessons
  • Year 8 students have access to the Science, Art, Music, Computing, Technology, Home Economics and Drama rooms, when needed, as part of their lessons
  • In most cases, there is a small group of teachers who look after each class for all of their subjects
  • Students will have the opportunity to negotiate some aspects of the Year 8 curriculum, through integration
  • A Year Level Coordinator is responsible for managing the year level of students and teachers.  This person, along with Home Group Teachers, is a contact person for parents and students.
  • Students will be introduced to the Year 8 Year Level Coordinator and Middle School Assistant Principal through the transition programme or on their first day at the school.

To be part of the Middle School at Willunga High in Year 9 means that:

  • Students stay with the same group for Maths, Science, Society & Environment, English and Health.
  •  In most cases, each class has a Home Group room which they use for core subject lessons
  • Other classes access this room when the Home Group students are using Art, Drama, Technology and other specialist rooms
  • There is a small group of teachers who look after each Home Group for the five core subjects mentioned above
  • Students have a choice of another 6 subjects during the year.  Three are studied in Semester 1 and three are studied in Semester 2
  • Further information about Year 9 courses and pathways is available in the Willunga High School Course Handbook
  • A Year Level Coordinator is responsible for managing the team of students and teachers. This person, along with the Home Group teacher, is a contact person for students and parents/caregivers.
